The Glenn York PTO organization is a nonprofit organization that was formed to help create, compliment and support the student body, teaching staff, administration and learning environment at Glenn York Elementary School in Alvin Independent School District.
Our mission is to positively influence the improvement and growth of our community (City of Pearland, Alvin ISD and Brazoria County) through supporting the education of young people, equipping educators, cooperating with administration, sharing volunteer opportunities with parents, and opening the door for outreach with community stakeholders. We believe that our parent teacher organization can accomplish our mission by prioritizing our efforts in parental engagement and outreach; increasing communication and coordination between parents, school staff and administration; encouraging, empowering and developing volunteer leadership and creating a 3 Yr strategic plan for the parent teacher organization.
Glenn York Elementary has been open since the 2011 school year. Shortly thereafter the Glenn York PTO was formed. Our school has experienced a lot of success since its opening. In the past year some of those successes have included strong state testing scores (above state average), enrollment for 2016-2017 was the highest among elementary schools in Alvin ISD. 2017 – 2018 projected enrollment will be 800 to 850 (more ideal enrollment size). The school has a Great Schools Rating of 9 out of 10. The school was able to sponsor numerous parent workshops, student showcases, a 3rd grade business fair and a successful career day. Also to finish out the year the SEA PERCH team won 2nd Place in a National Championship competition.
Our PTO would like to assist with furthering successes like these, so we have developed a plan that would bolster what our school staff can do to help best support our students and teachers. We have determined that our group will have to meet a needed level of capacity in order to deliver our vision in the community. As a result we have established the following goals for 2017 – 2018 business year:
a) Build a membership base of approximately 275 – 320 households
b) Establish volunteer participation of approximately 500 – 750 participants
c) Raise approximately $ 75,000.00 in 2017-2018
d) Establish approximately 25 – 35 partnerships in the business community
